How a person is built

Bioquantics

How a person is built,
and how they are accompanied

A plain explanation of Bioquantics, for anyone thinking of starting.

A person is not a loose organ

When someone comes to a consultation, they almost always come with a sentence that already contains the diagnosis: «my stomach hurts», «I don’t sleep», «I don’t get on with my partner». Bioquantics does not argue with that sentence. It just sets it aside for a moment and asks a different question: what is happening in this human system?

It is not a play on words. If you start from the symptom, you try to remove it; if you start from the person, you try to understand what holds it in place: where in the body it appears, since when, and in relation to whom.

The central idea: the body learns

This is what needs to be understood before anything else.

The body learns responses, and sometimes it keeps using them when they are no longer needed.

A bad fright, a humiliation or years of tension at home are not stored only as a memory: they are stored in how the body works. And that is useful while there is danger. The problem comes when the danger passed twenty years ago and the body is still responding the same way.

Bioquantics calls that somatising.

Understanding and changing are not the same thing

From this comes the most important distinction in the method:

  • Understanding changes what you know.
  • Desomatising changes how the body works.

You can know perfectly well why you close up when someone says a certain sentence, and close up anyway. The key is whether you look at it as something still happening or as something that has already happened.

Desomatising is not forgetting. The memory stays whole; what changes is that it stops running the show on its own. It is the difference between remembering and reliving every time it appears.

And one clarification, because the method itself makes it: this does not mean that any illness comes from an emotional conflict. Biography influences biology, but it does not replace it.

How a person is built in the present

The present is the starting point, not the past. The person is where they are today: with their symptoms, their relationships, their way of responding. The past serves to understand how they got there. It is not about finding someone to blame in childhood; it is about understanding why today’s body responds the way it does.

Time. What matters is not dating the event, but understanding how it is still affecting you today. The method has a timeline, but it is not there to make a calendar of the past. Time is where things happen to us: what we look for is how that stayed operating and why it keeps appearing now. The same event leaves different traces depending on how it was lived and what was needed at the time.

From there comes what really moves something: realising. Realising what happened and bringing it into the present as something that has already passed, that is no longer happening. It is not remembering in order to relive: it is looking at what happened from here, where it no longer rules. That realisation is what generates change; without it, the story stays a story and the body keeps responding the same way.

The bond. The body does not store who we relate to, but how that bond was lived: whether you felt loved or rejected, heard or ignored. From there comes a way of relating that is not exactly who we are, but in good part how we have adapted. That is why the relational side is worked on: partner, parents, children, siblings, work.

Repetition. «I tend towards anxiety», «I tend to repeat the same conflict». It is as if the system went back again and again to a place it already knows. And in those scenes a contradiction usually appears: what I reject I also need, because as a child you depend on the same people who can hurt you. Working on only one of the two sides leaves the matter half done.

How it is accompanied

You start from what the person wants to move. Two or three concrete things, in their own words. It does not have to be a symptom: «how not to get to stress» counts too. What you need is a direction.

The work is done in a quiet setting. The practitioner keeps asking the body where it responds and then looks for what it is and since when. They do not interpret freely: they read.

The person is an active part. It is not something done «to» someone while they wait lying down: it depends on their attention to what they feel and on their honesty in naming it. By dint of not saying it, a person can stop knowing what they feel.

And at the end it is checked. This is what most distinguishes the method: the session is not considered over because the hour is up. Everything worked on is reviewed to see whether it no longer responds. If something still responds, it has not been closed, and it is noted on the record for the next session.

What the path is like

This is a journey, and journeys have their rhythm. A body that has been responding one way for years does not change in an hour; it changes in layers, as each one settles.

Sometimes something happens that is worth keeping in mind and that can be disconcerting: at first, when an old response begins to loosen, a certain insecurity or disorientation can appear. It does not mean things are going badly. It is what it feels like when something that occupied a place stops occupying it and the new has not yet settled.

And there is something else the method openly acknowledges: sometimes we stay in a place that hurts because it feels familiar, and taking the step towards what we do not know frightens us more. Knowing that tendency —in yourself— is already a way of moving through it, which is why the process is done accompanied and without haste.

Here the work is on how the body responds, with each person as a map and their history as a guide. Medication and medical follow-up go another way and stay where they are: whoever is on them knows about them, and this work adds without taking away.

Frequently asked questions

Does it have anything to do with quantum physics?

Not in the sense that particles are measured or that you have to believe in anything. «Quantum» is a name the method uses to describe how the system is organised, not a technique that applies the laws of physics. What is done in a session is work with the body’s response.

Is it a talking therapy?

No. There is talking, and the initial conversation is essential, but the work is on how the body responds. A person can have their history perfectly clear and keep reacting the same way.

Does it replace medication or my doctor?

No. They go another way and stay where they are. This work adds, it does not take away. If there is a symptom that needs looking at, it is looked at first.

How many sessions does it take?

There is no figure. The body changes in layers and each layer has its rhythm. It is looked at session by session, with no fixed calendars.

Do I need to believe in something?

No. What is worked on is the body’s response. It takes a willingness to look and some readiness to say things as they are, even when they are not comfortable.

Is it the same as biodynamics?

No. Biodynamics is hands-on work on the table; bioquantics starts from another question —what is holding the symptom in place— and works on how the body responds. But they do have things in common, and they are the important ones: both start from the person and not from the symptom, both see the body as a whole rather than as separate parts, both recognise that biography influences how the body responds, and neither promises to cure anything. In practice they are often used together: bioquantics helps locate where the imbalance runs, and the hands-on work then accompanies the body.
